The past few years have
held more surprises than part-angel Clara Gardner could ever have
anticipated. Yet from the dizzying highs of first love, to the agonizing
low of losing someone close to her, the one thing she can no longer
deny is that she was never meant to live a normal life.

Since
discovering the special role she plays among the other angel-bloods,
Clara has been determined to protect Tucker Avery from the evil that
follows her . . . even if it means breaking both their hearts. Leaving
town seems like the best option, so she’s headed back to California -
and so is Christian Prescott, the irresistible boy from the vision that
started her on this journey in the first place.

As Clara makes
her way in a world that is frighteningly new, she discovers that the
fallen angel who attacked her is watching her every move. And he’s not
the only one. . . . With the battle against the Black Wings looming,
Clara knows she must finally fulfill her destiny. But it won’t come
without sacrifices and betrayal. In the riveting finale of the Unearthly series, Clara must decide her fate once and for all.

Cheese and Sprinkles. This book blew me away. I read this in nearly a day, completely riveted to the story and characters that I've always loved. And when the book drew to a close I wanted to laugh and cry so much but I was sitting in a very public place so I couldn't. BUT ALL THE FEELS WERE THERE. And they were worth every second. I don't know what magic touch Cynthia Hand used, but I am forever in love with this trilogy.

I don't even know where to begin. There will be SPOILERS, but they will be  in green. I can't NOT talk about this without them, but I'm going to leave it slightly spoiler-free for the rest of you that haven't read this book yet. I was able to keep myself away from spoilers until I read it, and it made this book so much more WORTH IT. So here we go.

Clara is one kick-butt girl if I ever saw one. She's brave and strong and determined. Her loyalty and willingness to fight for the people she loves is just amazing. And it takes her far in this final book. Being inside her head was just so great. She was incredibly strong, and then to see her weakness and struggles collide with that it just WAAH. It's humane and real and it just clicked. Clara was so much fun and her always-present wit made for snark and wit to lighten up the book.

Though compare Clara to some of the other characters? She's like a rock in a hurricane. My heart was so torn for Angela and Jeffrey. I've always loved those two and they go through hell in this book. Pretty literally too. I wanted to hug them so much and at the same time tell them to shape up and realize what's right in from of them. But they had to learn and grow and it was just heart-wrenching to watch. Like I seriously didn't expect Angela getting pregnant. But then we get to meet Web and you see how well it fits into the story and just WAAH. I was so shocked and it worked. And just ANGELA. When she's in hell and they find her. *sobs* She's been through the washing machine and you can't help but love the girl, despite some of her choices. AND JEFFREY. He's so lost after some of the happenings in Hallowed and again, watching Clara deal with him straying was hard. He's so great and I'm glad he returns to himself. They both find redemption and makes the had journey worth it.

Now, I've never really been into Angel books. Besides this book, I've only really read Hush, Hush, and I honestly didn't like those very well. So maybe I'm too quick to judge before reading more in the genre. But anyway, the angel aspect of this book fascinated me from the beginning. I loved the idea of having a purpose and all that scha-bang.Sure some parts are similar, with the fallen, and the pure but there things that weren't and it's neat to read. For instance, the congregation. I actually really liked how they have a community and they work together. Like this whole separate family. And the whole degrees of angel-blood. It's kinda fascinating.

I've mentioned before that I love books with nerdy cool things that make me smile and geek out. This book had one aspect that made me so excited. The majority of this book takes place in WHAT STATE? California! And like right in my area too! How often does that happen? Like NEVER. It was so cool, even though I'm not in Mountain View, to read about Stanford and places I've vaguely heard of. I know these places and she's IN MY AREA. It just made me so freaking happy. I grew up at Stanford and even though I don't remember it...eep! So cool. Like I said, nerdy cool things.  I bet you the next time I'm in that area, or whatever, I'm gonna be all "CLARA WALKED HERE."

This book twisted and turned and there were so many surprises that well, surprised me. Unless something is really obvious I can never guess the end of books, and this one just WAAH. All throughout I'd be gasping or yelling at my book. Quite out loud too. Ask my cousin. I don't even know how to describe. I just felt so invested and in with the characters that this story surprised and wowed me until the end. And the pacing of the book added to that. It moves well balancing quiet and loud, with revelations and heartache spread evenly. Nothing felt rushed or too soon like some books I've read. It just worked. Yep. good job Mrs. Hand.

I'm pretty sure I've covered everything but the ending and the romance. This book obviously has a triangle and with a conclusion...there's conclusion. I can't say anything about this without spoiling, so I'm sorry. I will leave you now.

If you know anything about my and my relationship with these books, you will know that I am a total Sucker for Tucker. Ha, I have wanted to say that for a LONG time. I liked Christian at the beginning but then when Tucker comes in to shine, he stole my heart....and never let it go. And even in Hallowed when I know so many people went to Team Christian, I remained on Tucker's side. The swanky cowboy for me ya'll! And let's just say, with that ending in Hallowed, I was super nervous about how it would all play out. And this book just had to TOY with me to no end. Christian, Tucker, Christian, DON'T BE STUPID AND THROW IT ALL AWAY CLARA, Christian, Tucker? Christian...TUCKER! If you read the book you know that Tucker wins. But I was super-freaking worried there in that second where her died and they were in heaven... *BURSTS INTO TEARS*..and then it ends and my heart is happy and so sad and just exploding in feels.  But it was a joy and I'm so happy with the end. Don't get me wrong though. I don't hate Christian. I do love the guy and tt was heartbreaking to see him come to terms with my favorite couple. The relationship that he has with Clara is so lovely and they are perfect for each other, but not in that way. Maybe logically it makes sense for them to be together, but Tucker just...HE'S JUST TUCKER OKAY?! He's her Tuck and she's his Carrots! It's just so beautiful! *sigh* I don't know what else to say.The ending fit, and I can't complain at all.

I just love these characters so much and I can't believe there won't be another year of me dying for more of them. But they have a lovely journey and I'm so glad I can re-read my favorite moments whenever I want. I also hope I've been able to get my point across, seeing as how many sentences ending in unreadable exclamations. But that's what this book did to me, and I hope this book does it to you. I can't spam this enough. I fell in love in Unearthly and it didn't stop in Hallowed or Boundless. If you haven't read them yet, get on that. Even if you aren't the biggest angel fan like me. They stole my heart, and I hope they steal yours. I think I should stop gushing praise on this book. But seriously. I loved it to pieces. Yeah, I'll shut up now but I CAN'T. I feel like once I post this review..I'm done. I finished a trilogy that I love and all the feels and just....merp.

So goodbye Clara and gang! You've been so much fun to hang with! Unfortunately, I need to go get a life. So I'll see you later. Oh, and Clara? Have a good one.

Thirty-five girls came
to the palace to compete in the Selection. All but six have been sent
home. And only one will get to marry Prince Maxon and be crowned
princess of Illea.

America still isn’t sure where her heart lies.
When she’s with Maxon, she’s swept up in their new and breathless
romance, and can’t dream of being with anyone else. But whenever she
sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with
memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down
to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon
over—and time is running out for America to decide.

Just when
America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her
question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her
future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy
are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any
kind of happy ending.

WARNING: There will be spoilers. I can't write this review without them.

To be honest, I have dreaded writing this review in so many ways. I've seen a lot of the blurb about this book, and while it didn't make me any less excited to read the book, it made me scared of what I'd think and how I'd come out of it feeling. I still don't know what I think. So forewarning, this review is probably gonna be incoherent as I try to sort out what I think. Commence rambles.

There is only one illogical thing that sticks out to me as I read this book. Now, there are rebels right? And a few times throughout the book, they come attack and they[the royal family and the Elite] have to run to these hideouts so that they'll be safe. Well apparently they get into the castle and the grounds pretty easily. There are at least three attacks in this book. Soo, if that's the case, then why the heck don't they guard better?! If this is a threat, do something! Build a wall or a gate around the castle for crying out loud! Post more guards OUTSIDE, I don't know! But it makes no sense to the logical side of my brain how they didn't do anything. Any. Thing.

But that said? Let's ignore logic and talk about my feels. The romance. WAAAH the romance. I don't even know who I am anymore. The foundation is built and now Kiera gets to have fun and play it and confuse us. Curse writing fun that kills readers! Maxon is still swoony, but then their relationship gets all confusing and I was like MAAAXON. Stop being a stupid teenage boy! I know you have a right to be a hormonal guy, but can't you be perfect all the time? Seriously? *headdesk* I mean there were totally some times when Maxon did some stupid things I didn't think capable of him. Let's refer back to the "Maxon being a teenage guy" bit. BUT STILLLL. The relationship between A and M was just unraveling and confusing to my heart and I just wanted a break from it all! I still don't know what to think of him[being Maxon]. I really hope he makes up for it in book three. I want the REAL Maxon back.

And then there's Aspen. I never liked the guy, but now I don't even know which boy will get her. Do you know how much this infuriates me?! I mean he obviously has his perks. I won't deny that. But COME ON. Can't we make Maxon good one this book instead of Aspen? Cuz that's what Kiera is totally doing here. Maxon is the swoony face to make Aspen's jerkiness look uber bad in book one. Now in book two, Aspen is the hero to make Maxon's dumbness look worse. I seriously don't even know what to expect from The One anymore.

America has totally grown in this book. We see a lot more of her rash and honest side. She stands up for things she believes in and has some pretty dang great moments. But one thing I didn't like about her this book? SHE CRIED SO FREAKING MUCH. Sure we got lots of her verbal kick-butt, but when *cue relationship feels* emotional drama showed up and affected her in a sad way, too often I felt we were rushing back to her room to sob on the bed. Get a GRIP girl. After the third time I was just getting annoying. Put your strong will into your emotional life will ya? Fight for him as much as you fight for your beliefs. But despite these sob sessions, she really does grow as a character and I'm very eager to see what she's up for in book three.

Bringing me to my next bit of brain vomit. Along with our reels we have quite the buildup of the society that so many people criticized in book one. We get more history, and we see the tensions and problems of the current society That's where A's kick-buttness comes in. HOWEVER, I feel like Kiera could be taking this in so many ways, that I'm worried what it will mean for book three. I loved all the insight and how it was inserted to give us breaks from the horribly wonderful emotional feels, and yet so much is built up that I feel like what's needed is an epic smack-down. Which I'm not sure Kiera can deliver. Maybe I'm feeling hopeless right now, because I don't even know if my boy Maxon will win America anymore. But I expect serious greatness from The One.

*takes deep breath* Wow. I'm going to shut up now. You're read my rantings. My worries, fears and likes. I really did love this book. I flew through it and sucked it up and just eep! It filled that little place in my heart for guilty pleasure books that needed filling. Now I just get the after-feels and trauma of wondering and analyzing and freaking out to death. If I don't make it till The One, please inscribe the following on my tombstone; "Maxon? If America won't take you, I'll see you at the pearly gates."

Review: Golden

Golden

by Jessi Kirby

Seventeen-year-old Parker Frost has never taken the road less traveled. Valedictorian and quintessential good girl, she’s about to graduate high school without ever having kissed her crush or broken the rules. So when fate drops a clue in her lap—one that might be the key to unraveling a town mystery—she decides to take a chance.
Julianna Farnetti and Shane Cruz are remembered as the golden couple of Summit Lakes High—perfect in every way, meant to be together forever. But Julianna’s journal tells a different story—one of doubts about Shane and a forbidden romance with an older, artistic guy. These are the secrets that were swept away with her the night that Shane’s jeep plunged into an icy river, leaving behind a grieving town and no bodies to bury.
Reading Julianna’s journal gives Parker the courage to start to really live—and it also gives her reasons to question what really happened the night of the accident. Armed with clues from the past, Parker enlists the help of her best friend, Kat, and Trevor, her longtime crush, to track down some leads. The mystery ends up taking Parker places that she never could have imagined. And she soon finds that taking the road less traveled makes all the difference.

This book was fast, cute and touching. While it is somewhat short, it tells an incredible little journey of discovery that's not hard to dive into and connect with. It reminded me so much of the movie "Letters to Juliet", which for the record, I haven't seen. And while I've never read anything by Jessi, this book completely enthralled me.

So let's talk characters. Parker is that smart chick with the good grades and the title of valedictorian. She's also the good girl who's never done anything wrong or crazy. Until now. One thing I really liked about her was the realistic side of her growth. As she reads this journal, it was so interesting to see how both of the girls journeys paralleled each other. I felt like it added depth, and insight into not only Parker, but also Juli. Parker was honest with herself and I just loved that. She's trying to become who she wants, and it takes a while for her to get there. It's not with the snap of her fingers, and she doesn't spend lots of worry time, dragging it out. It's a lovely pace and just *sigh*... it worked.

While I'm talking characters, I owe a few words to her best friend Kat. Thank you Jessi Kirby for not messing up a perfectly good friendship with a stupid dramatic fight. Thank you for having a spout, but not a battle. It's a refreshing change. Kat is fun, quirky and just a lovely edition to the cast. She brings a spark and feeling of frolickyness that you don't find in the other characters. She's just so different that I had to make up an illegal word to describe her!

I've been in the biggest contemporary kick of my life lately, and while this book is full of growth and becoming who you are, there is also...romance! Although, I'm honestly not sure what I think of it. I like Trevor..and yet don't like him. First we have the fact that he's a boy tow. He's popular with the ladies and may or may not have had flings with many of them. Sure, it means he's hot and attractive, but that's not exactly appealing to me. To have a crush on the guy is one thing. But to crush on him and still want him, knowing his girl history..wouldn't be the most reassuring. Yes it helps that he wants you....but do you get where I'm coming from? Maybe I'm just weird. But the romance was cute. Don't get me wrong. It so was.

So yup, this book was golden. It was sweet, fresh and a wonderful new contemporary voice. My one complaint is that the ending is a little too rushed. Or maybe, I wanted more closer on a few key points. She does a good job of wrap-up..but I wanted MORE. Ah well, you don't always get what you want, do you. SO YES. Golden this book was. I recommend it to fans of contemporary looking for a light beach read when you have a couple free hours to spare.

Novella Review: The Prince

The Prince

by Kierra Cass

Published: 3.5.13 from HarperTeen Impulse

Pages: 64

Before thirty-five girls were chosen to compete in the Selection...
Before Aspen broke America's heart...
There was another girl in Prince Maxon's life...

First, let me just say, it didn't even take me an hour to read this book. I gobbled it up. It was a yummy fluffy delightful read brimming with Maxon! What else can I say? The thing I love about these books are how I can read them and just fangirl. They are bascially a dystopia based Bachelor for teens, but at the essence of these books is a Princess romance. Enter my guilty pleasure. I love being able to hop into America's head [or in this case Maxon's] and read a romance gushing with yum. I know a lot of people have complained about the world building[etc..], but that's not what this book IS. These books are a love story, and for me, at least, I can enjoy the development that gives enough setting for the yum to commence.

So now, the Prince. Maxon. Love of my fictional-wish-I-had life! This book is really nothing more than a peek into his head and at what was going on in his brain during a few of the key beginning scenes. We see more of his first impressions on the selected, specifically America, but we also get snippets of the pressure from his Father. That gave him some real depth. Basically, I love the guy even more now. You think he's swoony when you're NOT in his brain. But now? Dudes, he is so worth everything. America, you better get your game on. I'm gonna fight you for him. Everything we get a peek at just made him WORK, from his romantic side, to caring Maxon, to classic funny Maxon.

Addressing the premise really quick, it mentions another girl. Well news-flash? She's not that prominent in here. It's just a mini obstacle/friend who ends up making him question himself, which adds even MORE depth to him. Thanks Daphne! :D One thing I did love was Queen Amberly. We really don't know that much about her in The Selection, but oh you guys, I love her so much. She's like the sweetest, most caring mother, and aaaw!! They have the best relationship. She balances out the obvious pressure from his Father and....eeeee!....it's just so sweet.

"Maxon, this is my gift to you. I promise I will make every effort to see these girls through your eyes. Not the eyes of a queen, or the eyes of a mother, but yours. Even if the girl you choose is of a very low caste, even if others think she has no value, I will always listen to your reasons for wanting her. And I will do my best to support your choice."   --Queen Amberly

*happy sigh* So yup, while adding more depth and character to the reason we all love these books, The Prince doesn't need to be read before the Elite. And for me who is still DYING to get her hands on the Elite [hurry UP library], this is just what I needed.

Soooo know you know what I thought! What about you? Do you love Maxon? Did you read this? Do you want to? Do you even like novellas? Let me know! XOXO,

Review Swap: Born of Ilusion

So, basically I teamed up with Eileen @ Singing & Reading in the Rain to do a mega fun Review Swap. We chose Born of Illusion [OUT TOMORROW!]. So if you're here looking for my normal blurbings, you're gonna have to head over HERE to find them! I've got Leeny's thoughts here! YAAAY!

Born of Illusion

by Teri Brown

Publishing: 6.11.13

Pages: 352

Anna Van Housen is thirteen the first time she breaks her mother out of jail. By sixteen she’s street smart and savvy, assisting her mother, the renowned medium Marguerite Van Housen, in her stage show and séances, and easily navigating the underground world of magicians, mediums and mentalists in 1920’s New York City. Handcuffs and sleight of hand illusions have never been much of a challenge for Anna. The real trick is keeping her true gifts secret from her opportunistic mother, who will stop at nothing to gain her ambition of becoming the most famous medium who ever lived. But when a strange, serious young man moves into the flat downstairs, introducing her to a secret society that studies people with gifts like hers, he threatens to reveal the secrets Anna has fought so hard to keep, forcing her to face the truth about her past. Could the stories her mother has told her really be true? Could she really be the illegitimate daughter of the greatest magician of all?

And now....LEEN MACHINE!

Eileen's Blurbings:

Hello everybody! It's Eileen (from Singing and Reading in the Rain) and Hinky (my name for Inky!) and I are doing a review swap! Of course, I'd much rather recommend Hinky's review, since mine are always kind of boring. BUT. I did try to spruce it up a bit. Not that it worked very well.

That's you guys right now.

Anna's voice is perhaps one of the best I've ever read. You really get into her head and figure out what she's thinking. Additionally, I love her wit. She's so funny and quick that you can't help but laugh at her responses to certain questions. Her passion for magic was also so admirable, because she had done it for such a long time and it made her unbelievably happy. I have a certain soft spot for the books that contain these smidgens of bright spots in our main character's lives. Although Anna does grow a significant amount in terms of her relationship with her mom, she's always known that she wants to entertain people with her magic act, which made me think, "There's a girl who has her head screwed on straight."

Born of Illusion is essentially a historical fiction with a significant element of magic. It's magic, but not glamours of fey or the spells of wizards. It's classic Harry Houdini-style magic. Speaking of which, Houdini even lived when this book took place, so he made a few appearances, which I relished because although I don't know much about Houdini, Teri's take on him was a sweet spot. Furthermore, we have a bunch of tricks that got incorporated into the story, like unlocking yourself from a bunch of chains or undoing a tight knot that binds your hands together. That element along gave all of the story an extra "Oomph!" which, in turn, made me ecstatic beyond belief at the originality.

Ambitiously plotted, Teri Brown weaved several things to make the story fly by with the endless amount of hububaloo. I couldn't get enough of the way this plot was mapped out, making it effortless to follow along and read through Anna's point of view. However, with all of the hububaloo came the inevitable confusion. (Don't forget I confuse so easily that it isn't exactly surprising I was this flabbergasted.) I will be the first to say that there was too much going on. There's quite a large cast and most of them have a very significant factor in the story, so we have to spend a lot of time building them up, which leaves a little bit of space left to deliver the plot in a coherent manner. Born of Illusion, in the end, was slightly more anticlimactic than I had anticipated because of how much happened in such a small period.

Original, captivating, and riddled with magic, Born of Illusion will have you spoiling to go to a seance or a magic show in the very near future. This one is a definite hit for historical fiction fans and even people who don't mind historical fiction but would rather stay away from it!

Inky Weekly: The epic SIGNING edition!

Hey guys! I've been having a pretty epic week. Lots of summer activities and parties! Plus I got into this choir I auditioned for! Yay! Anyway, it's kinda sad that these haul posts are getting scarcer on the blog. I have had no time to vlog and edit and post lately. So these might be more like monthly hauls. Haha. But here's all that's happened on the blog and in books! Plus, my signing recap from two weeks ago!! Yay!

******Three-Week Post Round-Up******

So a lot has happened on the blog in the past few weeks! Here are a couple highlights!

******BOOK HAUL*******

So I've finally have time to piece together the last month into a long vlog. It's kinda random and awkward, and I slacked off on editing at the end, but hopefully you like it! It's like midnight so I am not feeling the need to link up at this point. But all the titles and authors are listed in the video so you can search them on Goodreads!

Whoopteedo! And that is that!

******SIGNING RECAP******

If you haven't gotten the gist yet...I WENT TO A SIGNING. My FIRST signing. It was amazing! The author, Brandon Sanderson, is one of my all time favorites and it was so much fun to go meet him with my also-obsessed-with-his-books Best Friends. Recipe for AWESOME.

So we got to the store, with a little time to spare and hung around. The store, Hicklebees, was absolutely adorable. It's and indie and was started by the owner when she was twelve. It had the most happy and bookish feel to it ever. It was so quirky and unique! What was awesome was their back hallway, where every author that had ever visited signed their name on the backroom doors and walls. They were covered in drawings!

It was totally fun to look through and find popular authors we know! And look! I have proof of J.K. Rowling's drawing of the sorting hat! Pretty cool right?

I honestly didn't know what to expect with the signing. But it was really neat! Brandon talked for a while, sharing stories about his newest book The Rithmatist, and read some sneak peeks to upcoming books. Those were super amazing. Then we had questions, and it was very fun. Everyone there was obviously a big fan, in our packed crowd. Jokes were shared and fans appeased! Of course, meeting him was also totally AWESOME. I had bought two of his books to get signed, and signed they are!

The Best Friend, The GENIUS, Inky!! & Best Friend's Brother

The Best Friend, The Other Best Friend, The GENIUS, Inky!! & Best Friend's Brother

Of course, after all that epic was over, we totally went out for fro-yo, because what trip isn't complete without it? All in all, it was an AWESOME trip. I'm so glad I got to go! Here's to many more signings in the future! Hopefully one with Ashley this summer!

There you have it folks! My month. *pheew* This was insane! I hope you all had an awesome week/month/whatever! Link me to your posts and videos and I will come spam you with awesome!! Also, GO READ BRANDON's BOOKS. You will not regret it. If you do, we'll be automatic BFF's. Hehe.
